Stop GMO crops in NSW
The NSW Government is planning to lift the ban on the use of Genetically Modified (GM) crops by allowing an 18-year moratorium to lapse.
This means that farmers - particularly organic farmers in NSW – will lose the ability to say no to the commercial growing of individual GM crops that the Office of Gene Technology Regulation (OGTR) approves for release.
We, the undersigned residents of NSW, call on the Minister for Agriculture Minister Adam Marshall MP to:
- enable farmers and the food industry to take advantage of GM-free policies that maximise the market & trade benefits to their businesses and regions
- extend the moratorium on GMO foods until tighter safeguards are in place to limit environmental, health and ecological impacts
- support commercial farmers in accessing more eco-friendly, regenerative options that limit losses to their income
